Acute liver failure

Our liver is one cardinal organ which needs utmost care and if ignored can lead to many complications. Acute liver failure is one such medical complication related to liver. It is an uncommon life threatening illness in which there is rapid deterioration of liver function resulting in jaundice, coagulopathy, encephalopathy and multi organ failure of a previously healthy individual. Acute liver failure may results from severe liver cell injury from a variety of causes that includes viral hepatitis, toxins, metabolic disorders etc. Acute liver failure often affects young people and carries a very high mortality rate.Liver transplantation remains the only medical intervention with proven survival benefit in patients with irreversible ALF.
